George M (N2XM)'S NDB IMAGES

~~ GALLERY TEN ~~

The NDBs in this album are all located in South Middle Tennessee. These include: 'DTE' on 394.0 kHz in Dayton, TN (35 28 54.854N 084 55 51.320W), 'CQN' on 341.0 kHz from Soddy-Daisy, TN (35 9 59.3994N 085 9 26.6472W), and 'APT' on 382.0 kHz from Jasper Chattanooga, TN (35 03 34.700N 085 35 02.200W).

George also mentioned that the Airport Manager, a very gracious lady and enthusiastic private pilot, kindly arranged for a four-wheel drive vehicle to get him as close as possible to photograph the NDB, and also demonstrated an airport showpiece - a 1973 'antique' NDB monitor which still works (see DTE Pics 8&9). It was positioned in a place of honor on the credenza in her office. She related that when she had DTE 394 first installed in 1973, the monitor was the only piece of equipment that gave her no trouble during the first four years of the NDB's operation. (It has since been replaced by a more modern unit).
