EAS on 391.5 kHz - Eastleigh, Southampton NDB (EGHI). This beacon is located at N5057.3 W00121.4, and has a listed range of 15nm. Hours of operation are as required, though this frequently appears to be 24H.
The NDB is on the right, and is one of the vertical 'whip' types.
The DME equipment is also co-located at this site, and is probably one of the units to the left of the NDB.
Another view of the navaids from across the car park.
The Control Tower at the airport.
Southampton is long associated with the development of the Supermarine Spitfire, and this one is on display at the entrance to the airport.
Another shot of the Spitfire. The site was formerley used by the Supermarine company, who had a test flight facility there, and the first test flights of the aircraft were carried out there in 1936.
Another view of the navaids from a different location.
Again from a slightly different spot.
Is that a close-circuit camera I see in the corner near to the NDB - better watch out Mike, they might have you in their photo gallery now!:-)
